A Note from the President

                                                                                 April 9, 2010

Dear UBGF Club Members,

My first six months, as your President, has been very busy and has flown by!  I want to take this opportunity

to pass on some important information.

First, I want to remind everyone of the approaching UBGF Derby National Run-Off.  The females will run on Friday, May 7,

and the male run on Saturday, May 8.  The judge’s panel and club directions are in the April issue of Hounds and Hunting, page 15.

Hope to see a GREAT turn out!

The AKC is leasing our grounds in order to hold the AKC National SPO Championship Run-Off on April 16-17.

Butler Co. B. C. is hosting the MAB Derby Run-Off, at our running grounds on May 1-2.

It is with great pleasure that I can announce that the UBGF has purchased a new tractor and tiller. It is a

MX 5100 Kubota diesel, 50 HP, 4 WD, with a canopy and a super front end loader.  This tractor has been

paid for by the hard work of a few members, Cary Waskom’s generous donation of a new dog trailer – resulting

in raffle ticket sales handled by Sam Butler, donations by some of our member clubs, donations by individual

members, proceeds of the “Little Warrior” fish fry (Rick McDonald and Jess Yates), and proceeds from Butler Co.

B.C‘s auction and picnic (Mario Santilli and club members).  My sincere “Thank You” goes to everyone involved

in making this dream become reality!

A major land improvement in Pen 1 was just concluded April 2nd.  The UBGF and Butler Co. have been working

through the USDA (with a district conservationist) in order to correct major erosion problems.  This has been

accomplished through a “cost share program”.  Can’t wait for all or you to see the results!  Approximate costs

were $11,000 with the USDA covering $7500, the UBGF $2500 and Butler Co. $1000.  An outside contractor did the

dozer work.  I want to thank Mario and the Butler Co. membership for doing the fertilizing, seeding and thatching.

Lastly, we all want to welcome Elgin Co. B. C. (Ontario) and Pontotoc B.C. (Ms) into full membership with the UBGF.

We are truly happy to have these two clubs.  1st V.P. Todd Odle sent a letter to all UBGF club contacts asking for

their vote and both clubs were readily accepted.  This makes a total of 78 clubs in the UBGF.  Growing and healthy

thanks to all of you.

Hope to see you at the Run-Offs!

 Yours in beagling,

Fred C. Scheetz
